Question:
Ms Lee Hui Ying: To ask the Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) regarding the study on the viability of nuclear energy (a) whether the Government currently has projections on the cost savings that Singapore and Singaporeans can expect as part of its assessment on the economic viability of nuclear energy; and (b) if so, what are they.
Written Answer by Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Dr Tan See Leng
1. The projected price of electricity and cost savings arising from adopting nuclear power depend on a range of factors, including the type of reactor technology deployed, financing model, manpower and fuel costs.
2. Singapore has not made any decision on deploying nuclear energy as we are still studying the viability of a nuclear power programme. Therefore, it is premature to discuss cost implications.
