Question:
Mr Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari: To ask the Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) (a) whether the Ministry has observed any emerging trends in work opportunities for licensed tourist guides; (b) how it assesses the demand for tourist guide services; and (c) what is the outlook for the profession amid changing visitor profiles and travel patterns.
Written Answer by Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Dr Tan See Leng
1. The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) monitors visitor trends and industry developments closely. One key emerging trend is the growing demand for personalised and immersive experiences. Tourist guides who adapt to changing traveller preferences and leverage technology will be well positioned to address the demand from these independent travellers for more engaging experiences through creative storytelling and customised services.
2. STB has introduced the Future of Guiding 2.0 initiative to strengthen the professionalism and capabilities of tourist guides. The initiative includes a revamped training curriculum and an updated licence renewal framework that gives guides greater ownership of their professional development and opportunities to continue upskilling to meet changing traveller needs.
