4 November 2026
Question:
Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong: To ask the Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) (a) whether Singapore supported the inclusion of a carbon neutrality or net-zero emissions scenario in the 9th ASEAN Energy Outlook; (b) what position Singapore took regarding the omission of such a scenario from the final report; and (c) whether Singapore will support its inclusion in future editions.
Oral Answer (to be attributed to Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Dr Tan See Leng
1. The ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO) is a report developed by the ASEAN Centre for Energy to support regional energy modelling and planning. The scenarios presented in the report are developed for analytical purposes and should not be taken as reflecting policy positions or commitments of individual ASEAN Member States.
2. Singapore remains committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, contingent on the maturity of decarbonisation technologies and effective international cooperation. We will continue to work closely with our ASEAN partners to advance regional decarbonisation efforts, including through relevant ASEAN initiatives and cooperation platforms.
