4 November 2026
Question:
Mr Ang Wei Neng: To ask the Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) (a) how many companies have benefited from the Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG); (b) of those, how many are SMEs; (c) how much EEG has been disbursed since its inception; and (d) whether the Ministry can allow solar panels to be included in the list of supported equipment under EEG.
Oral Answer (to be attributed to Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Dr Tan See Leng
1. The Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG) was introduced in September 2022 to support the adoption of energy-efficient equipment that directly reduces energy consumption. Since then, close to 25,000 projects amounting to $78 million have been approved. The scheme has supported close to 8,300 companies, more than 95% of which are SMEs.
2. While solar panels can help enterprises reduce reliance on grid electricity, they do not reduce total energy consumed and are not considered energy-efficient equipment. Therefore, they are not covered under the EEG.
